TL;DR: Go to fastpeoplesearch.com/removal, enter your email, confirm you’re the person (or authorised), search your name, open your listing with "View Free Details", click "Remove My Record" and click the button in the confirmation email. It takes about 5 minutes. The site says up to 72 hours to process; DuckDuckGo says it’s usually about an hour. You can send up to five requests per email address, and the listing can come back, so recheck every few months. Californians can also use the state’s free DROP platform, which since 1 August 2026 sends one deletion request to every registered data broker.
What FastPeopleSearch shows about you
FastPeopleSearch is one of the free US people-search sites that need no account and no payment. According to DuckDuckGo’s removal guide, a listing can show your name, current and past addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, relatives and associates, all fully visible to anyone who types your name.
That combination is exactly what a scammer, stalker or "grandparent scam" caller wants: who you are, where you live, and who your family members are. Removing it takes about five minutes.
Before you start
- Use an email address you’re happy to share with the site. A separate address or an email alias works well.
- Search by name and city or state, not by phone or address. DuckDuckGo recommends this because broker data is often out of date, so older listings may not show up when you search your current details.
- Note every variation: maiden names, middle initials and previous cities often create separate listings.
Step by step
From DuckDuckGo’s FastPeopleSearch guide:
- Open fastpeoplesearch.com/removal. A Cloudflare check may appear first.
- Enter your email, tick the box confirming you’re the subject (or authorised to act for them), complete the reCAPTCHA and select "Begin Removal Process."
- Search by first and last name plus city, state or ZIP.
- Open your listing with "View Free Details" and copy the page URL somewhere safe.
- Click "Remove My Record." Not "View Full Background Report," which is the upsell.
- Open the email titled "Opt out request for FastPeopleSearch.com" and click the blue button.
You’ll land on a "Record Removal Complete" page. No follow-up email arrives later, so that page is your receipt. Take a screenshot.
Check it worked
Paste the old listing URL back into your browser. A removed listing shows an error message, which, for once, is exactly what you want to see. If the listing is still live after 72 hours, repeat the steps or contact the site through its support form with the listing URL.
Limits and quirks
| Issue | What to know |
|---|---|
| Request limit | Up to five opt-out requests from one email address |
| Several listings | Repeat steps 3 to 6 for each one |
| Processing time | Site says up to 72 hours; usually about an hour |
| Reappearing data | The site updates automatically, so a removed listing can return |
| Google still shows it | Search engines cache old pages; re-indexing can take days to weeks |
The two-for-one
DuckDuckGo says removing your listing here also removes it from related sites such as PeopleFinders and SmartBackgroundChecks, and makes it harder for other brokers to copy your data from FastPeopleSearch. Check those sites yourself anyway: PeopleFinders has its own opt-out process.
Clean up Google too
Removing a listing at the source doesn’t instantly remove it from search results. Google’s Results about you tool lets you find and request removal of results showing your phone number, home address or email, and it can notify you when new ones appear. But as Google’s help page puts it, removing a result from Search "doesn’t mean that the info is gone from the internet." That’s why you do both: remove at the source, then clean up the search results.
If you live in California: use DROP
California’s Delete Request and Opt-out Platform (DROP) lets residents send one deletion request to every data broker registered with the state. According to Malwarebytes:
- registered brokers had to start accessing DROP from 1 August 2026;
- they have 90 days to delete your records after a request;
- more than 600 data brokers are on the state registry;
- you verify residency (manually or through Login.gov) and get a DROP ID to track your request.
The official portal is privacy.ca.gov/drop. Oregon, Texas and Vermont also require broker registration, but Malwarebytes says only California currently offers a single platform like this.
Keep going: the rest of the list
FastPeopleSearch is one site of many. Work through TruePeopleSearch, USPhonebook and Whitepages next, then recheck all of them in three months. If that sounds like a chore, our comparison of removal services covers the paid options.
People-search sites show where you live. Breaches show what else is out there. A free exposure check shows which breaches your email address appears in.
