TL;DR: LexisNexis Risk Solutions offers three separate opt-outs: marketing lists, prescreened credit and insurance offers, and record suppression for personal safety. Anyone can use the first two. Full suppression of its public-records products is limited to identity theft victims, people at risk of harm and certain officials, and needs documents. Use the consumer portal or call 1-888-497-0011. None of this removes your data from other brokers or from the credit bureaus.
Why LexisNexis has your data
LexisNexis Risk Solutions is not a people-search site you can browse for free. It sells data products to businesses, insurers, lenders, investigators and government agencies. Those products pull together public records such as property records, liens, judgments, bankruptcies, professional licences and address history. That makes it one of the deepest files that exists on most US adults, even if you have never heard of it.
It is a different kind of company from the sites in our people-search opt-out guide. Those sites show your profile to anyone. LexisNexis mostly sells to paying, vetted customers, which is why its opt-out rules are stricter.
The three LexisNexis opt-outs (and who can use each)
The LexisNexis consumer portal lists three different requests. Most people should do the first two; only some qualify for the third.
- Direct marketing opt-out (anyone). Removes you from LexisNexis marketing lists. It doesn't stop other companies marketing to you.
- Prescreen opt-out (anyone). Stops LexisNexis lists being used for “firm offers” of credit or insurance. Its consumer policy says this removal is permanent.
- Information suppression for personal safety (eligible people only). Hides your details in LexisNexis-owned public-records products sold to restricted subscribers.
Who qualifies for record suppression
According to LexisNexis's consumer and data access policies, suppression is open to:
- Identity theft victims: send a police report or other proof (such as a letter from your card company) plus an Identity Theft Affidavit. If you haven't filed one yet, see how to report identity theft to the FTC.
- People at risk of physical harm: a court protective order, police report, or a letter from a shelter administrator or health care professional.
- Public officials, judges and law enforcement: proof of role or a supervisor's letter confirming the threat. Daniel's Law requests in New Jersey are handled by phone.
LexisNexis decides whether the documents are enough and tells you if a request is refused.
How to submit a LexisNexis opt-out, step by step
- Go to the consumer portal and open the “Request Opt-Out/Opt-In” form.
- Choose which opt-out you want. You can submit marketing and prescreen together.
- For suppression, upload your documents. If you can't upload, LexisNexis accepts mail to: LexisNexis Individual Requests for Information Suppression, PO Box 933, Dayton, OH 45401.
- Prefer the phone? Call the LexisNexis Consumer Center on 1-888-497-0011.
- Keep a screenshot or copy of what you sent. LexisNexis says it processes requests “within a reasonable time,” with no fixed deadline, so note the date and follow up if nothing changes.
What a LexisNexis opt-out does not remove
- Products sold to law enforcement
- Products covered by the Fair Credit Reporting Act, such as insurance and background reports
- Your data at other data brokers, and the original public records at courts and county offices
- Prescreen lists from Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. For those, use OptOutPrescreen or call 1-888-567-8688
That last point matters. LexisNexis is one source among hundreds. B2B databases that sell work emails and mobiles have their own process, covered in our ZoomInfo, RocketReach and Lusha opt-out guide. Our guide on removing your info from US data broker sites covers the others in the order that has the most effect.
See what LexisNexis holds before you opt out
You can ask LexisNexis what it has on you. Its policy page lists a free C.L.U.E. insurance-history report once every 12 months, a Full File Disclosure by mail, and an Accurint comprehensive report that needs ID and proof of address and takes about 30 to 60 days by post. Reading your file first tells you which errors to dispute and how exposed your address history really is.
Brokers are only half the picture. Your email and phone also travel through breached databases that no opt-out form can reach. A free email exposure check shows which breaches your email appeared in, and the full Scan My Shadow scan adds your phone number.
