TL;DR: AAA offers Experian-powered identity theft monitoring, known as ProtectMyID, to its members. The Essential tier is free: Experian credit monitoring, dark web monitoring for your SSN and email, and fraud resolution help. Deluxe ($10.95 a month) adds all three bureaus and up to $1 million insurance; Complete ($17.95) adds CreditLock and child monitoring. If you're already an AAA member, the free tier is worth activating.
What ProtectMyID is
ProtectMyID is Experian's identity theft monitoring, offered through AAA and only available to AAA members, according to SafeHome.org's July 2026 review. SafeHome describes it as essentially the same product as Experian's IDNotify.
The three tiers
From AAA's Experian identity theft page:
- Essential (free for members): Experian credit monitoring, an Experian report at enrolment, dark web monitoring for your SSN and email only, lost wallet help, fraud resolution support and an online exposure scan. Identity theft insurance up to $10,000, for Premier members only.
- Deluxe ($10.95 a month): adds monitoring at all three bureaus, SSN monitoring, real-time identity alerts, full dark web monitoring, account takeover, change of address and court records alerts, and up to $1 million insurance.
- Complete ($17.95 a month): adds Experian CreditLock, a VPN, child identity monitoring for up to 10 children, social media monitoring and more.
Prices are plus tax where applicable. AAA says annual billing saves over 16%, and Premier members get 10% off Deluxe and Complete. Insurance is underwritten by AIG companies.
How to enroll
- Go to AAA's Experian identity theft page or call 1-877-440-6943.
- Choose a plan; you'll need your AAA membership number and home ZIP code.
- Complete Experian's identity verification to switch on credit monitoring.
You must be 18 or older and each member enrols separately. AAA notes Mountain West Group members are redirected to a different product. Free-month upgrade offers require a card and bill after the free month unless you cancel.
Is it worth it?
Essential is a free extra if you already pay for AAA, so activate it. Paying for Deluxe or Complete is a closer call: a free credit freeze blocks most new-account fraud, and free weekly reports from AnnualCreditReport.com cover all three bureaus. SafeHome's reviewer also found the sex offender monitoring returned no results despite known offenders nearby.
Compare it with IDShield and Zander, or read identity theft protection: is it worth it?. Experian has its own breach history; see the Experian data breach guide. A free email exposure check shows which breaches your email is in.
