What the results actually tell you

• The photo appears on a stock photography site — an unambiguous sign the "person" in the profile photo isn't a real photo of them at all.
• No matches found — doesn't guarantee authenticity, but is a reasonably good sign, particularly for a personal, casual-looking photo unlikely to be professionally staged stock content.
• Similar but not identical images — worth examining closely; sometimes indicates a slightly cropped or filtered version of a stolen photo rather than an unrelated match.

Checking multiple photos, not just one

A sophisticated fake profile might use one carefully selected, hard-to-trace photo alongside others that are more obviously reused — check every photo on the profile individually rather than assuming one clean result covers all of them.

A clean result on every photo doesn't fully confirm a profile is genuine — it only confirms the photos aren't detectably stolen from an indexed source. Someone could still be misrepresenting other details (employment, marital status, location) while using entirely their own, real photos.
